Welcome to the Sociology Department of Nile University of Nigeria. The Department of Sociology runs a four year or an eight-semester degree programme in Sociology. The four year programme involves coursework that comprises both sociology and other prescribed subjects. In the final year, students are expected to carry out an independent research that will lead to the submission of a project report based on such research.
The social problems that characterize human societies today are multiplex and, therefore, can be studied from different perspectives. However, to solve these problems, it is imperative to conduct a thorough analysis of these issues to gain a better understanding of them. In light of this, Sociology is a very important discipline since it equips individuals with the skills necessary to systematically and scientifically study society in an effort to find solutions to social problems.
A major objective of this department is to train students whose concrete knowledge of the Nigerian society enables them fulfill social development roles in the fields of administration, management, teaching, communications, culture, counseling, welfare, health, education, housing, social security. The department also seeks to develop a human resource base equipped with cutting-edge leadership skills driven by the desire to attain a better society.
